LaToya Nkongolo:
Extreme. Unethical. A Politician We Can’t Trust.
Radical, Hateful Rhetoric Against Our LGBTQ Neighbors
At a fundraiser with her extreme right-wing friends, LaToya Nkongolo:
-
Called being gay a “mental illness” and a “lifestyle”
-
Called Anne Arundel County Public Schools an “institution of grooming” and said teachers are attempting to “influence our kids” to “cause sexual confusion”
-
Refused to apologize when called out by Annapolis Pride and our teachers for her homophobic remarks
Read the open letter from our teachers and Annapolis Pride calling out LaToya’s offensive statements here, including a full video.
Falsely Represents Data to Trash Our Schools + Teachers

LaToya Nkongolo calls our schools “horrible,” “mediocre,” and “institutions of grooming.” But that’s not the truth, and she knows it. She says test scores and graduation rates are going down when facts show they are going up. She wants to trash our hardworking teachers to win her campaign, but we know better. Here are the facts:
-
Test scores are up significantly since the Board of Education hired Dr. Bedell
-
More students are taking and passing AP Exams for the third year in a row
-
There are fewer vacancies in our schools than ever before - more teachers, counselors, and bus drivers!
-
Graduation rates are UP, not down as Nkongolo claimed. Under Dr. Bedell, graduation rates for homeless students, English Language Learners, and low-income students have risen most.
There’s always room for our schools to improve, but we need Board of Education members who will champion our schools and teachers, not demonize them.
Made False Statements to Police Officers During DUI Arrest
This January, LaToya Nkongolo:
-
Drove over the center line repeatedly with two flat tires, and was pulled over for reckless driving
-
Falsely told police officers she didn’t have alcohol in the car, despite having an empty bottle of vodka on the floor and bottles of wine in her purse
-
Refused a sobriety test when officers smelled alcohol on her breath, after which she was arrested

Extreme Right-Wing Views. Extreme Right-Wing Friends.
LaToya Nkongolo isn’t an ordinary Republican. She’s a right-wing extremist. Let’s look at the facts. LaToya:
-
Co-hosted a rally called ‘Unite the Right’ - the same name as the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, VA - and defended the name even after Jewish groups complained.
-
Cheers on the far-right extremist group Moms For Liberty, taking money from their local chapter leaders and speaking at their meetings.
-
Supports banning books from school libraries, and takes money from Steve Whisler, who led a book-banning effort in Carroll County.
Out For Herself, Not For Us
Do we want a school board member who is fighting for our families, or out for themselves? LaToya Nkongolo makes it clear where she stands when she:
-
Takes money from businesses that have contracts with the Board of Education, including over $2500 from one bus company owner - a clear conflict of interest.
-
Supports sending our tax dollars to private religious schools, like the one she sent her child to.
-
Blocks her neighbors on Facebook when they disagree with her - which is illegal for Board of Education members to do.
